I am Christina Michalopoulou, a Greek artist, a contemporary painter living and working in Thessaloniki, Greece.
My mediums are acrylic paint or oil colors on large canvas surfaces. My paintings, as my soul lately, are in a constant battle between abstraction and photorealism. Creating figurative, photorealistic human figures and body parts on one hand, bringing them in total contradiction with contemporary abstraction on the other. Most of the times, I choose to bring the realism of my figures in contrast with an abstract, pop or minimalistic background as a play of surrealism resemblance to a collage.
I have a Buchelor degree in Marketing (Kingston University London, 1999), have studied Architectural Drawing at Ergastiri School of Arts (worked under mr G.I.Christopoulos, Thessaloniki, 1993), Drawing at Papiotis School of Arts (Thessaloniki, 1190) and Color Techniques at Psarakis School of Arts (Thessaloniki, 1990).
During the last years, I have had a solo exhibition in Athens and participated in many International Art Fairs & Gallery Exhibitions in Europe, receiving honorable mentions and finalist distinctions for my work. Meanwhile, many of my artworks found their place in personal art collections throughout Europe.
Original artworks can be seen at my studio, DEKA5/ENDEKA in Thessaloniki and digitally on Saatchi Art, theartspace.gr and Kunstmatrix.
